Strikers Announce Staff Changes

The Richmond Strikers Soccer Club is pleased to announce that Erwan Le Crom and Trevor Spencer have been named U16-U18 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Head Coach and Assistant Coach respectively. Erwan moved into this new role effective August 1, 2007, and relinquished his former responsibilities to our newest staff member Matt Kirkpatrick. Trevor who has coached numerous Elite Striker Teams also started in August.

The Strikers were selected last month to be a part of this nationwide development academy which is slated to begin in the fall of 2007. The Strikers are part of an elite group of 64 top youth soccer clubs from around the country selected to join the program.  This program is being initiated after a comprehensive review of player development systems in the United States and around the world and will provide players with the best possible opportunity to develop. The Academy teams who will compete against other Development Academy teams across the US. These are great professional opportunities for Erwan and Trevor and great for the club! Good luck this season!

Goochland County Richmond Strikers West Creek Field update July 2007:

On July 3, 2007 the Goochland County Board of supervisors took another step forward toward  getting the Richmond Strikers closer to realizing our goal of having soccer fields at West Creek. The Board of Supervisors decided to move forward with a Resolution amending the ordinance to allow soccer fields in West Creek subject to a separate CUP approval.  While we had hoped that the amendment and the CUP process could be run simultaneously, the board felt it necessary to run the two independent of one another.

On August 16th at 7:00 pm at the Goochland County Administrative building on Sandy Hook Road, the Planning Commission will hold a hearing during which they decide on our Resolution.  Striker families are encouraged to attend this meeting in a show of support. This is another critical point in our on-going efforts to win approval and we must show the county our commitment to this endeavor.

A mass email reminder will be sent out inviting families to attend in early August. Please mark your calendar now and bring your Striker players too!  For more information call the Strikers at 288-4625. Thanks in advance for your continued support!

Message From Outgoing Richmond Strikers Chairman Ken Scott

Long gone are the Weeping Willow trees on Field 3 and long past are the days and early evenings I spent talking to friends and parents so long that my wife would accuse me of soliciting votes for public office.

Those days of recognizing the parents with their Striker players has passed me, however I always enjoy watching the youngsters having fun and appreciate the life skills they are learning.

In 1984, my wife signed up our six year old son to play soccer. A sport I knew very little about and one that I was not interested in spending every Saturday before he could play, picking up rocks from the playing area.

We played on Henrico school fields and on open areas large enough to mark a field in Innsbrook. We practiced on any plot of ground that a company, church or person would allow us the privilege.

Welcome to the Richmond Strikers! The Richmond Strikers Soccer Club is a 501C(3) non-profit corporation and has been providing soccer programs in Richmond for 26 years. Over the years, Strikers has grown to be the area’s largest non-profit club offering a variety of soccer programs for all ages. In March 2006, the Richmond Strikers merged with VA CASL creating one of the largest clubs in Virginia and the nation, and an organization that serves a broad geographic range covering the western and eastern parts of Richmond . Striker Park , located in the heart of Short Pump, is one of the country’s top youth soccer facilities and home to a state-of-the-art Nike turf field. Plans are underway to develop another soccer complex in the eastern part of Richmond on land that was donated to the Strikers. Strikers host several large annual tournaments including the prestigious Jefferson Cup which brings in over $8 million to the Richmond area. For all its accomplishments, the Richmond Strikers has been named one of 45 Nike Premier Clubs in America.
