U5 Special Rules and Information

 

Format: 3v3 with a minimum of three to play

 

No goalkeepers – do not allow a player to defend the goal in any manner

 

First 20 minutes should be utilized for practice sessions.  Take a short 5 minute break and then have a 24 minute game (four 6 minute quarters as noted under duration)

 

Ball Size: 3

 

Game Duration:          Four 6-minute quarters with a two minute break between quarters one and two and another two minute break between quarters three and four. There shall be a half-time break of five minutes

 

Practices: No practices during week. Game time is for developing the feel of the game.

 

Coaches: During the game, a coach from each team is to officiate. Coaching during the game should be held to a minimum.

 

Goals: 4 x 6 feet

 

Substitution: Allowed anytime ball is out of play-with the permission of the coach.

 

Start of Play: Kick offs are used at the beginning of each quarter and after each goal. All players must remain on their half of the field until the ball is kicked.

 

Offsides: There are no offsides in small-sided games.

 

Free Kicks: All free kicks are indirect and awarded for all major fouls. The ball must be touched by at least 2 players before a goal is scored. The defending team must be at least 5 yards away from the ball.

 

Goal Kick: If the team attempting to score a goal kicks the ball over the goal line outside the goal posts, the opposing team puts the ball back into play with a goal kick. The Goal Kick should be taken within 2-3 yards of the goal and the opposing players must be 5-6 yards away from the ball.

 

Corner Kick: If the team defending the goal last touches the ball before it crosses the goal line, the attacking team puts it into play with an indirect kick.

 

Throw-Ins: Throw-ins are awarded to the opposing team when a player causes the ball to entirely cross the touchline. Encourage proper throw-in but do not penalize bad ones.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 
Welcome to the Richmond Strikers! The Richmond Strikers Soccer Club is a 501C(3) non-profit corporation and has been providing soccer programs in Richmond for 26 years. Over the years, Strikers has grown to be the area’s largest non-profit club offering a variety of soccer programs for all ages. In March 2006, the Richmond Strikers merged with VA CASL creating one of the largest clubs in Virginia and the nation, and an organization that serves a broad geographic range covering the western and eastern parts of Richmond . Striker Park , located in the heart of Short Pump, is one of the country’s top youth soccer facilities and home to a state-of-the-art Nike turf field. Plans are underway to develop another soccer complex in the eastern part of Richmond on land that was donated to the Strikers. Strikers host several large annual tournaments including the prestigious Jefferson Cup which brings in over $8 million to the Richmond area. For all its accomplishments, the Richmond Strikers has been named one of 45 Nike Premier Clubs in America .
