Richmond Strikers West Creek
Field Update as of
September 21st, 2007
Goochland County Planning
Commission votes YES!
Last night roughly 75 Richmond
Strikers coaches, board members,
families and players attended
the Goochland County Planning
Commission meeting during which
the vote for or against the
Strikers Certificate of Use
Permit (CUP) was levied. After
presentations by the Strikers
legal representative Bill
Axselle, along with comments
from three Goochland residents
who are also Striker parents,
the commissioners’ voted
unanimously to approve the CUP!
“This has been a long,
productive process for the
Strikers and we are thrilled
that after a lot of discussion,
meetings and hard work, the
Planning Commission has given us
the go-ahead to build fields on
a portion of Markel
Corporation’s West Creek
property,” stated Scott Turner,
Executive Director for the
Strikers. “It was great to see
all the support from the Striker
families and coaches and I
believe the excellent turn-out
helped show the commission what
a strong, vibrant club we are,”
Turner said.
There is one more hurdle to
cross in November when the
Goochland Board of Supervisors
vote on this issue, so we aren’t
completely there yet, but we
feel hopeful and confident that
the board members will vote in
favor of the CUP the
Commissioners have already
passed.
So way to go Striker families
and thanks for your help! It
looks very much like next fall
(if all goes according to plan
and we get the final approval
from the board) that we will be
playing on some awesome new
fields conveniently located off
288 in beautiful Goochland
County.
