U.S. Army 3 on 3 Summer Hoops
July 26-27, 2008 Innsbrook Office Park
On July 26-27, the Sports Backers are
putting on the U.S. Army 3 on 3 Summer Hoops as a
family friendly basketball festival with food, music
and fun on the Dominion Resources campus at
Innsbrook Office Park. In addition to 3 on 3 team
play, participants and spectators alike can enter
three point contests, speed dribble competitions and
spot-shot competitions on the Carmax Contest Court.
The Arena Court will host the Best Buy Slam Dunk
Contest which will feature prizes provided by Best
Buy. And Chik-fil-A is creating a skills contest
for a randomly chosen participant – spectator or
player – to win a year’s worth of Chik-fil-A. To

Volunteer Opportunity for
High School age Students!
This summer the
Richmond Strikers Soccer Club offered a week of summer
soccer camp to an area non-profit – Charity Family Life.
Roughly 30 children ages 7-15 came to Striker Park and
participated in a week of fun! A great opportunity has
been brought to our attention for high-school age
volunteers. Following are the details. For more

Community Service
Opportunity: Charity Family Life
Charily Family Life is a
non-profit which provides academic and enrichment
programs to at-risk youth to promote strong, positive
values in children ages 7-15.
Number of children served:
35
Volunteer
opportunity: Family Charity
Life needs 2 tutors per day, Monday through Thursday
from 3:30-6:00 pm. Tutors assist children ages 7-13
with completing homework, prepare/study for tests, help
serve dinner and clean/set up for next day. A group of
4-6 volunteers can share the responsibilities
alternating weeks.

once a week

Job Description: Support
staff in day-to-day activities by assisting with the
operation of our after-school program and summer
program

Basic Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one homework assistance; keep the
children focused and engaged in whatever the current
activity is; encourage, motivate and affirm the
children; assist with snack preparation; and provide
support to staff as needed
-
Volunteers are
encouraged but not required to: Lead life-skills
teachings; take responsibility to lead games and
activities with the kids; share whatever skills,
talents or interests the volunteer has with CFL
during “Fun Fridays” or life-skills time. These
talents, skills and interests might involve sewing,
cooking, jewelry making, teaching us how to play a
sport (like golf, croquet, etc.), or sharing an
interesting experience, like fighting in a war or
taking a trip to a foreign country.
Location:
In the eastern end of Richmond at 1820 Creighton Road.
The center is in the Eastlawn Shopping Center at the
intersection of Creighton and Nine Mile Road.
